Personality Type is being used, as standard practice, by corporate and college career counselors and corporate human resource professionals around the world. The obstacle for its use by high school counselors has been high costs and the lack of tools specifically designed for the high school student. With the advent of the Internet, Do What You Are, from Bridges, now provides those tools in an effective way and at an affordable price.
To learn more about their students, counselors and advisors usually rely on a series of assessments designed to identify students' values, skills, and interests. There are two problems with this approach: First, it only provides a "snapshot" of where the student is at that particular moment. And second, all three of these can (and usually do!) change quite dramatically by the time a student graduates college and is ready to start a career.
But the one thing that does remain constant is an individual's Personality Type - the innate way each person naturally prefers to see the world and make decisions. And although all individuals are unique, people of the same Type often share enormous similarities in the kinds of academic subjects they find interesting, and the kind of work they find satisfying.
An understanding of Personality Type also reveals clues to student preferences in communication and learning styles, social situations, and relationship strategies. It's the best way to understand who a student really is, and what he or she needs in order to succeed in their college and career experience.
